Person(s) Living Positively with HIV/AIDS

Ms Anne is the co-founder of Joy Academic for orphaned and vulnerable children within the surroundings of Kibagare village in Westlands sub-county. Anne tested HIV positive over 5 years ago and has come out in public to declare her HIV status. She is enthusiastic about teaching and sensitize her surrounding about HIV/AIDS and gender based violence and the dangers of drug and substance abuse. Joy Academy was founded in the year 2013 after she got inspired by YWCAA. She narrates that when she participated in a youth sensitization program in Kibagare in 2008, she resolved to take care of herself despite her HIV status and to live beyond stigma. The positive attitude towards her health status is an inspiration to many young women infected with HIV in her community. She conducts door to door community outreach to households affected by HIV/AIDS. This is done in collaboration with other BAWA & grandmothers teams. Ms Ann has a passion to work with OVCs. She is touched by the neglect and suffering that OVC undergo. She therefore decided to establish the Joy Academy as a home to vulnerable children.
